Some of you'all might have come to the 'milk-barn'
when I lived in Charlottesville. And so this image might remind you (slightly) of the layout of that wonderfully strange little house.
The barn probably looked something like this before it was renovated for human habitation. It even had a couple of little stairs like this that led up to the living room area and the woodstove was just to the left of the stairs. The raised area where the cows stand during milking was the kitchen.
The sunken area is for the farm workers so they can stand about eye level with the utters .... I always tried to picture what it looked like with the cows in my little house and how they came and went. It really was sweet when this cow poked her head in the doorway as if to say "look, this is like your old place".
