Here are two views from the entrance to the Bode Museum in Berlin- recently renovated the museum was reopened on October 18 2006. It is part of a line up of museums on "Museum Island" (or, in German, Museumsinsel) an island in the Spree river, in the center of the city. The Bode - counted among the "Old Museum', the 'New Museum' and the famous 'Pergamon', finished in 1930 - is now the home for a collection sculptures, Byzantine, and coins and medals. All of the collections together on Museum Island provide a unified look at European art from Antiquity to the 19th century, presented in buildings that give an historical view of museums themselves. This island of Museums was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1999.
