If you were to cross that street and go along a short tree-lined path, you would come to some stairs and this sculpture on the right- a 'monument to the sports, the archer created by E.M. Geyger (1902)', according to the Dresden city website. I was disappointed to learn that it was not Hermes, the son of Zeus and the nymph Maia. Hermes is the god of shepherds, land travel, merchants, weights and measures, oratory, literature, athletics and thieves, and known for his cunning and shrewdness. The hat on this guy gave me hope, but his feet are not winged... anyway, if you would see the river as in the photo on right, if you decended the stairs with the non-Hermes-Archer just behind.
